Lets see.. my last story ended with the forgotten passport. well after everything went perfectly smooth. well.. depends on how your definition is of Smooth.
First we had to say bye to all the few but great people we met at munchies resort! :( i hate saying bye!
our bussride from surathani to hat-yai to satun was the worst we had so far. we sat in a little mini van for about 5 hours to hat-yai and then in a different one to satun for about 2 hours... in total with all the waiting and the ferry together our travel was exact 12 hours. and we werent even on our destination yet. surprisingly in the south of thailand there is no more boedism but there is alot of moslim. no more temples but everywhere mosque. There was also one directly next to our hotel... which I did not like when the started the mission at 5.00 AM. But oh well... gotta love to experience everything.
We had boat ticktes for the first ferry to Lankawi, so at 9.00 AM we officially left Thailand. we go a new stamp in our passport and we got on board of the ferry. It was only a trip of one hour. arriving on Langkawi Jettypoint.. is was one big crazy happening.! everywhere was dutyfree shopping and aziatic families where running around buying lots and lots of stuff.. apperently the whole island was duty free, thats why it is such a big touristic island.
Happily we didnt stay anywhere near that jetty point. we found a jungle kind of hostel called Gecko guesthouse in Chenang a town further away from the ferry. also lots of backpackers in this hostel and a relaxt cool looking bar/lounge outside.
we spent there 5 nights and i was sad to leave afterwards. I had to get used to the touristic stuff on the island but after a while you dont even notice it anymore.
well lets see what did i do those 4 days... we went on a amazing mangrove tour. just went trough the mangroves on a boat, saw some snakes, crabs, lizzards, eagles and lots and lots of pretty nature!!! Loved it!!
second day we had a lazy day because we went partying the night before.. not to a club or bar inside.. no to a street bar. During the day we walked over that side walk many times and at night al teh sudden there was a bar. we met 2 guys Lesly and Chris at the hostel and we had a great party at the streetbar. :P we met a lot of malay people and lots more travelers. it was amazing! Anyways.. during the day Carolien slept ALOT and i spend most of the time in the lounge meeting lots of great people, also Fletcher a guys from Australia. who has been traveling for about 2 months now and has even 1 more month left. he biked 600 kilometers through Asia on his mountainbike, with all his gear on the back of his bike! WOW!!
Our third day was a active day again.. we enjoyed the best and most beautifull view on the island.. 708 Meters above seelevel we saw a panoramic view of Langkawi. all the beurifull beaches and the beatifull little islands on the coast. Wonderfull!! made you sink away in your own thoughts.! After the view we walked, in the hot sun, to the refreshing waterfall!! there were also seven wells but we had to walk 600 steps to get there and with that sun, it was mission impossible so we just stopped at the waterfall :)
when we got back to the waterfall we spend the rest of the day with Fletcher and played lots of card games (finally made good use of my deck of cards that i brought from the netherlands. haha) At night all the people we met during the last few days joined us! it was really fun, eventhough we actually had to go to bed early because of our trip next day, I stayed up pretty late! OOPS!
the next day started really early.. 7.00 AM the alarm went off.! but no worries, i was all excited because i went diving again!! first time after i got my license! couldnt wait to see the coral and fishes on pulau payar marine park a.k.a coral island.!
after a boat trip of one and half hour we arrived at the island and i was very lucky.. i had a private dive because i was the only one who went diving, all the rest of the people went snorkeling, so did Carolien.
it was wonderfull, beautiful, amazing and awesome under water! lots of Nemo's lots of pretty coloured coral and lots of big group of fishes who would swim directly next to you!! LOVE IT!!!
during the break between my two dives is sat down with carolien and had lunch.. but carolien wasnt so happy.. she was hit by fire coral during snorkeling and had like burnmarks all over her hands.. i swear she has no luck this trip.. first stitches, then her debit card, then sick and now the fire coral.. oh oh!! and besides that it was also pooring down and thunderstorming.. kinda scared me when i was on the boat to our next dive site. but it was gone when we entered the water!
also the second dive was really wonderful! even more colors of coral and more colored fishes! amazing!
about 7 hours after we left that morning we got back at the hostel and i was completly broken but nevertheless i had a great last night. after carolien went to bed early i got convinced by the guys to join them to the streetbar again and so i did! i figured i would enjoy the fun now i am still here, because the morning/afternoon after we would leave already :( And again i had a good night! :) always fun when you meet so much fun and nice people.

The next day, which was sundag august 18th, we left gecko.. with a little broken heart i said bye to all the nice people and got in the taxi a little upset because we wouldnt come back to a island with beach anymore.. only cities from now on! :( I really liked the backpackers vibe and the ability to just walk to the beach, do nothing and just hang out at nice places! but at the same time enjoy the nature and awesomeness of the island.
but we had to go and see more i guess.. so we got on the ferry to george town at 14.30 and we would arrive at 17.30,,, but they didnt tell us ahead that they were going to ride through a fishingnet... so once they did that..we were just floating in the middle of the big big ocean waiting untill the divers came to fix the propellors again... 3 hours after floating we were able to go again! so around 8 oclock we finally arrived, tired and hungry at george town.. on top of that the hostel we wanted to go to had only one bed left.. so we walked around for a while to find a different one.. and for those 3 nights its okay, but also the most basic and cheapest we have stayed at so far! but oh well!! have to experience everything!
eventhough this place is one step closer to home.. I missed gecko and all the people from the moment i step off the boat! maybe we find a place like that in Kuala lumpur, which we will go to wednesday. and will be our last stop before we take the plane back home.

so one more blog to go.. but that will be written from home, from a clean and comfy room and after i took a warm shower and while i will write that i will be sitting in a cofortable chair with no airco in the room that makes me having a cold.... oeee that does sound amazing already!!

    Adrie:

    Hoi Anne,
    blessure in USA.

    Groet Adrie
