Tripping new England on the road

Blijf op de hoogte en volg Anne

23 April 2016 | Verenigde Staten, New York

2100 miles (3250 km), 5 states, 4 mountain hikes, 4 national parks and 12 fantastic days!
We started off in Boston, where we walked everything because it was all so close by and it's a tiny city compared to New York.  A little the same on how Amsterdam and Utrecht differ from each other.

Boston was lovely, the weather was cold but except for one day the sun was out and the rain stayed away. We saw all the touristic stuff: Harvard University,  freedom walking trail, downtown, Chinatown etc. but that Sunday we picked up the car we were all to excited to leave boston.
With some tips from a guy at the hostel we went north a long the coast of new hampshire and main. Slept a night in portland and moved on straight to Bar Harbor (maine) where Acadia National park is located. It was amazing! We were still in the off season so we had hard time finding a place to stay... and we ended up in the YWCA  (no not the ymca :P )  which turned out to be some woman shelter kinda place. Where woman lived for permanent and some lived there just for the season and then there was us... just staying for 2 nights haha

Acadia national park was very rainy and misty the first day but we hiked our first mountain anyway.  We started when it was still dry, but on top the wind started to pick up, you could only see 2 meter in front of you and when we reached the sign of the top it started pooring down. So we had a scary and slippery way down and we were soaked to the  bone when we got to the car. Cold and crazy but it was in some way spectacular to stand on top of that mountain  and see nothing and almost be blown away by the wind.
The day after we had a much better hike, cadillac  mountain. Highest of the park and a stunning view!! You could see the ocean stretch out for miles and miles to the east.. somewhere out there was Europe :) haha

Our next stop was conway (new Hampshire) a little town in the white mountains. And ofcourse it was still off season here as well, so sadly the road up to Washington mountain was closed, which is the highest mountain of white mountains (2 km altitude). But we hiked up the south Moat  mountain and had a wonderful view of Washington mnt. And a AMAZING 360 view of the area.

Next up... A small small deserted ski village.  Bolton valley. We stayed in a very cozy home through airbnb. It was pretty amazing and our host; Paul was very nice. Relaxed guy who was happy to have people in the house around him 3 amazing days!!
From there we headed to our last stop, buffalo (new york) Which is a small city close to the niagara falls.
Those falls where breathtaking. Insane to think that water has been running over there for years and years. Will it ever stop? Will the water ever be completely gone?
Buffalo was not the greatest town we had seen but we visited  the falls multiple times. During the day, during night and we hiked along the niagara river.

And then it was boston bound again.... 9 hours of driving got us to a small town with lots of motels close to boston. So our last and final day was only a 2 hours drive to the airport.....
Lots of miles and hours in the car... but lots of unforgettable experiences!!

Amazing time with Marjon in beautiful new England!!

Next up... organised group travel from new York to San Fransisco and everything in between. Just a few hours left till I meet the group... really curious who all is gonna be touring!

P.s. lots of beautiful pictures but sadly no computer to put them online.

Leuk om je verslag te lezen. Niagara watervallen inderdaad prachtig. Buffalo niet de meest inspirerende stad in N.Y. state maar wel goede uitgangs positie. Veel plezier verder!
